Learn about responsible data practices and participant protections in wearable-based research, grounded in insights from the Ethics and Law Working Group of the European Human Exposome Network.
In this webinar, Mr Evert-Ben van Veen – a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience in health and privacy law – explores the legal and ethical dimensions of using commercial wearables, such as smartwatches, in observational research. Mr van Veen led the Ethics and Regulations Work Package of the Human Exposome Assessment Platform (HEAP) project and was Chair of the European Human Exposome Network’s (EHEN) Law and Ethics Working Group.
In this Webinar, he outlines the conditions under which wearable data can be responsibly integrated into exposome research. Drawing on his extensive work at the intersection of law and science, including his contributions to shaping a research-sensitive interpretation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), he offers practical insights into reconciling innovation with compliance and public trust.
