The LongITools project is holding its next policy forum “Diabetes and the Exposome: Identifying Challenges and Solutions for Action” on Wednesday 10th May 2023, 09.30-11.00am BST.

Diabetes is a growing public health challenge and places a huge burden on individuals affected, their families, and governments. People living with diabetes are at increased risk of developing various debilitating complications, leading to an increased need for medical care, reduced quality of life, and premature death.

There are 61 million people in Europe living with diabetes and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projects that prevalence will see a 13% increase by 2045. In 2021, the total expenditure in the European Region on the treatment and management of diabetes and its complications was €177.9 billion, while the average cost per person with diabetes was €2,908.

The LongITools forum will include short presentations covering the challenges of diabetes and the research being undertaken, including any preliminary results.
